Institute of Advanced Technologies for Energy (Itae) “Nicola Giordano” of the Italian National Research Council (CNR)
ITAE is the Research Institute of CNR with the strategic task of developing and promoting innovative low environmental impact technologies and processes through the use of fossil and / or renewable energy sources.
The Institute has consolidated international skills and experiences in the design and development of prototypes and electrical systems for stationary and mobile applications.
The scientific profile of CNR ITAE is oriented towards an application-type: the main research activities are inherent to the development of fuel cells of different generations, innovative electrochemical accumulation systems and integration with renewable energy sources. Particular attention is devoted to hydrogen production and accumulation, the direct use of solar energy by photovoltaic cells, photo-decomposition systems of water, alternative thermal systems and fuels and the production of hydrogen from organic and industrial waste. Skills are also related to the development of solutions for Smart Cities with research activities mainly in the areas of smart building and mobility.
Role in «Ravenna Green Port»
As part of the Ravenna Green Port project, CNR ITAE coordinates the activities related to the Renewable Energy and Sustainable Mobility Energy Project, which integrates with the CertiMaC-developed line dedicated to Energy Efficiency of Buildings, Infrastructures and Processes.
In particular, CNR ITAE plans and manages the research, technology transfer and networking lines related to renewable energy production and sustainable mobility: electrical traction systems powered by fuel storage systems and fuel cell systems and integration with energy sources Renewable, in synergy with CertiMaC’s research activities.
Energy analysis of the identified port area and energy needs evaluation. Study of internal mobility and assessment of needs.
Study, design and construction of demonstration plants and auxiliary systems in support of stationary and transport operations.
Based on surveys and collected data, realization of simulation studies and identification of the most suitable technologies for the area.
Monitoring the performance of demonstration interventions and verifying the level of energy savings in mobility.
Identifying possible measures to reduce energy consumption through the use of Renewable Energy Sources and Smart Energy.
Joint working tables with stakeholders in the area to outline the possible innovation lines in FER and Mobility.
